Floyd Don Davis is the founder of Davis & Davis and a former Franklin County General Sessions Judge with more than four decades of legal experience. Before building a law firm known for taking on tough cases, he spent two elected terms deciding them from the bench — experience that still shapes how Davis & Davis approaches every case today.

From the Bench to the Bar

Floyd Don Davis was elected to two terms as Franklin County General Sessions Judge, serving from 1982 until his retirement from the bench in March 2004. Few attorneys can say they've sat in the judge's seat themselves — Floyd spent over two decades there, learning firsthand what separates a well-prepared case from a weak one, and what a courtroom actually expects from the attorneys who walk into it.

He didn't stay retired for long. The same year he left the bench, Floyd founded Davis & Davis, bringing that judicial perspective directly into private practice. Over the two decades since, he's built a reputation across the region for taking on difficult cases — especially when insurance companies try to shortchange the people he represents — and for being willing to take a case all the way to trial rather than settle for less than his clients deserve.

Floyd is a Franklin County, TN native, and the firm he founded remains family-led to this day: his sons, Robert ("Robbie") and Andy Peters Davis, both returned home after law school to practice alongside him.

With more than 41 years of combined judicial and legal experience, Floyd brings a broad, practical perspective to the firm's work — particularly cases where insurance companies are involved and a trial-ready attorney makes the difference. His background on the bench gives him a distinct advantage: he's seen how judges evaluate arguments, evidence, and attorneys from the other side of the courtroom, and he applies that insight to every case Davis & Davis takes on.

Outside of his legal work, Floyd is active in the local business and real estate community. It's part of a work ethic he's carried through his entire career — one his firm still holds to today.
